“Coclearia” Market

For about twenty years, the “Coclearia” market in San Teodoro has been enlivening nights in the town centre with hundreds of stalls.

In Roman times, the term Coclearia referred to a site about 15 miles from Olbia, which scholars associate with present-day San Teodoro. It comes from “cochlea”, meaning shell, probably in reference to abundance of sea shells in the local area. The shell is the symbol of the market and it is used together with the Municipality banner and the tourism trade mark.

A variety of products can be found in the night market: clothing, soaps, various accessories, wellness products, curios, artefacts of every material and colour, souvenirs and jewellery crafted by the skilled hands of local and foreign artisans.

The stalls are set up along:

• Via dei Gerani
• Largo dei Platani
• Piazza Gallura
• Largo Emilio Lussu
• Via Don Gavino Pes
• Via San Francesco
• Via del Tirreno

Each of these streets has been assigned a nature theme typical of the local area to facilitate its identification.

Every evening from June to September, from around 8:00 pm to 2:00 am, the streets in the town centre that host the night market become pedestrian areas. Vehicles are not permitted to enter or even to park.

Le petit marché “Coclearia” de San Teodoro, depuis près d’une vingtaine d’années, anime les nuits du centre ville avec ses centaines de stands.

A l’époque romaine, le terme Coclearia identifiait un lieu situé à environ 15 miles d’Olbia, que les savants positionnent à l’emplacement actuel de San Teodoro. Il dérive du mot “cochlea” qui signifie coquille, dont probablement l’endroit était riche. La coquille est le symbole du petit marché et est adossée à la bannière de la municipalité et au logo touristique.

Au petit marché nocturne traditionnel, vous pourrez trouver une grande variété de produits : vêtements, savons, produits de bien-être, des accessoires, des bibelots, des objets de matières et couleurs différentes, des souvenirs et des bijoux façonnés par les mains habiles des artisans locaux et étrangers.

A chacune de ces rues a été donnée une thématique typique de la région pour une identification facile.

Chaque soir de Juin à Septembre, de 20h00-à-2h00 environ, les rues du centre-ville où se déroule le marché nocturne deviennent des zones piétonnes. L’accès ou le stationnement des véhicules est en effet interdit.

Il mercatino “Coclearia” di San Teodoro, da circa vent’anni, anima con le sue centinaia di bancarelle le notti del centro.

Nel periodo romano il termine Coclearia identificava un luogo distante circa 15 miglia da Olbia, che gli studiosi collocano nell’attuale San Teodoro. Deriva da “cochlea” che significa conchiglia, di cui probabilmente il luogo era ricco. La conchiglia rappresenta il simbolo del mercatino e si affianca a quella del gonfalone del Comune ed al marchio turistico.

Nel mercatino serale tradizionale potrai trovare prodotti di vario genere: abbigliamento, saponi, accessori vari, prodotti per il benessere, curiosità, manufatti di ogni materiale e colore, souvenir e bigiotteria plasmati dalle abili mani di artigiani locali ed esteri.

Le bancarelle vengono allestite lungo:

• Via del Tirreno

A ciascuna di queste vie è stata attribuita una tematica naturalistica tipica del territorio per facilitarne l’individuazione.

Da giugno a settembre ogni sera, dalle 20:00 alle 02:00 circa, le vie del centro dove si svolge il mercatino serale diventano aree pedonali. Non è consentito, infatti, l’accesso ai veicoli né tanto meno la sosta.
